Xiaomi is currently conducting trials on three folding-screen mobile phones, with two already in their finalized forms, including the Xiaomi MIX Fold 4. Moreover, according to a Weibo post by the blogger @智慧皮卡丘, Xiaomi is actively testing satellite communication capabilities on two mobile phones. One of them, a vertically folding screen device, has undergone testing and features dual rear cameras.
Additionally, another tested and finalized mobile phone is the flagship horizontal folding model, equipped with four rear cameras. Images captured by this device showcase Xiaomi’s “self-developed innovations,” and the phone has successfully undergone satellite communication testing. The blogger further disclosed that Xiaomi has introduced a new horizontal folding screen phone, with rumors suggesting the possibility of a more affordable version in development.
Xiaomi Satellite Phones In Testing
It’s worth noting that back in September of last year, rumors circulated about the Xiaomi 14 Pro Special Edition supporting satellite communication functions. Later, unspecified reasons refuted these claims. Recent reports suggest that the Xiaomi 14 Ultra will indeed support satellite communication, utilizing a miniaturized chip for two-way communication in areas lacking terrestrial network coverage.
If these reports hold, it follows logically that the Xiaomi MIX Fold 4 will also feature satellite communication capabilities. Presently, Huawei Honor has taken the lead in implementing satellite communications, with other domestic manufacturers, including Xiaomi, closely following suit and undergoing testing.
Meizu has reportedly developed a multi-mode satellite communication chip, although it remains in the pre-research phase and is not yet ready for implementation. Brands like OPPO and vivo are also conducting testing research and development for mobile phone satellite communication, with official announcements expected upon successful completion of the tests.
Moreover, blogger @digitalchat.com recently leaked information about Xiaomi’s high-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 folding screen mobile phone. The device adopts a four-camera periscope dual-focal segment route, drawing inspiration from the previous generation and incorporating “micro-innovations.” The folding focus is expected to be comprehensive, and the device will also undergo weight reduction. This aligns with expectations for the upcoming MIX Fold 4 mobile phone, considering that its predecessor, the MIX Fold 3, featured a Leica optical full-focus four-camera setup.
