Xiaomi Patent For Hidden Car Door Handle has Been Authorized

Recently, Xiaomi Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. has secured a Xiaomi Car Patent for “hidden car door handle, car doors, and vehicles.”

Xiaomi Patent For Hidden Car Door Handle

This Xiaomi Patent For Hidden Car Door Handle describes a hidden door handle comprising a base, an operating port, a switch assembly, and a handle assembly. When activated, the handle assembly pivots inward to a position that triggers the switch assembly, unlocking the vehicle door.

Remarkably, this hidden door handle functions without an electric drive component. Its design simplicity not only trims weight but also cuts costs and enhances user convenience. Menwhile, Xiaomi initially implemented a semi-hidden door handle in their debut car, the Xiaomi SU7. Lei Jun, the company’s CEO, explained that this choice was not made out of concerns about difficulty popping the handle off. Instead, he realized that fully hidden handles were challenging to clean while washing the car.

Many consumers have previously expressed concerns about hidden door handles becoming standard in cars. They worry that in colder regions, these handles might freeze, disrupting travel.

Despite forgoing the fully hidden handle, Xiaomi SU7 excels in aerodynamic efficiency. Lei Jun boasts that the SU7 has a world-leading drag coefficient of just 0.195Cd. This exceptional aerodynamic performance is aided by the car’s design, which includes 8 air ducts and 17 air outlets, further lowering its wind resistance coefficient.
