Lei Jun Pre-Releases Xiaomi SU7/Max: C-class High-Performance Eco-Tech Sedan

This afternoon at the Xiaomi Automobile Technology Conference, Lei Jun unveiled the pre-release details of the upcoming Xiaomi SU7. Positioned as a “C-class high-performance ‘ecological technology’ car,” Lei Jun emphasized that the first batch of cars has already undergone mass production. However, the official release is slated for a few more months, during which extensive testing will be conducted to guarantee foolproof performance.

Xiaomi SU7 Horsepower

The Xiaomi super motor lineup includes the V6 and V6s, with power outputs of 220KW and 275KW, respectively. These motors deliver horsepower ratings of 299ps and 374ps, with torque figures of 400Nm and 500Nm, compatible with 400v and 800v platforms. Xiaomi’s super motor V8s stands out in the industry with a top speed of 27200rpm. Its features include ultra-high strength silicon steel with a strength of up to 960MPa and a 50% efficiency increase, thanks to two-way full oil cooling technology. The motor has garnered 155 patent applications, with 60 patents already authorized. In addition, Xiaomi’s advanced motor technology research includes carbon fiber laser winding technology, achieving an impressive 35000rpm in lab research.

Battery

The Xiaomi 800V silicon carbide high-voltage platform reaches a maximum voltage of 871V. This platform features CTB-integrated battery technology. The world’s highest volume efficiency is at 77.8%. The battery pack is a collaboration with CATL, and the low-profile battery is sourced from BYD’s lithium iron phosphate battery.

In terms of heat dissipation and insulation, the car offers 17 layers of high-voltage insulation protection and the largest cooling area in its class at 7.8m², along with 165 pieces of aerogel insulation. The Xiaomi Car Cloud collaborative safety warning system and battery inversion technology enhance passenger safety. Xiaomi also aims to dominate the electric vehicle market in winter battery life. The car features a high-efficiency dual-mode heat pump. The highest battery life retention rate in low temperatures and the fastest class heating rate for its air conditioner.

Build

The company uses die-casting and full-stack self-research for its materials, including the exclusive Xiaomi Titan Alloy. This makes Xiaomi the only Chinese car manufacturer mass-producing vehicles with self-developed alloy materials. The design includes a 72-in-1 integrated die-cast rear floor and an innovative three-stage anti-collision design. Xiaomi’s Smart Driving technology is self-developed and includes features like a zoom BEV, a large road model, and a super-resolution occupied network, supported by powerful computing chips and perception hardware. Lei Jun announced that by 2024, Xiaomi’s intelligent driving technology would be among the industry leaders.

The Smart cockpit features a 16.1″ central control ecological screen and a 56″ large HUD, complemented by a flip-up instrument screen. The Xiaomi Pad can serve as a rear expansion screen. The native car-machine system offers five-screen linkage and intelligent system integration. HyperOS ensures a swift startup in 1.49 seconds, and seamless mobile phone and car-machine connectivity. Xiaomi tablet applications can be directly loaded into the car, creating a unique CarIoT ecosystem with unified and standardized interfaces. It also supports wireless CarPlay and iPad use in the car for iPhone users.

The Xiaomi SU7 is a C-class high-performance, eco-tech sedan. Its dimensions are impressive: a body size of 4997x1963x1440mm and a wheelbase of 3000mm. The design includes water-drop headlights, halo taillights, semi-hidden door handles, frameless water-drop rearview mirrors, electric rear wings, and more. It’s available in three colors: Bay Blue, Elegant Gray, and Olive Green.

Cockpit

Inside, the wrap-around cockpit and physical buttons are notable. It features air conditioning temperature/air volume adjustment keys, electric tail wing adjustment keys, and air suspension adjustment. The ergonomic seat design is tailored for the Chinese physique, upholstered in full-grain Nappa leather, and complemented by a 25-speaker system with Dolby Atmos support. Storage is ample, with a 517L trunk and a 105L front trunk.

Performance-wise, the dual-motor version has a maximum horsepower of 673PS, acceleration from zero to zero in 2.78 seconds, and a top speed of 265km/h. It features a turning radius of 5.7m and a braking distance from zero to zero of 33.3m. The car adapts to road state, cornering posture, aerodynamics, and active side wing support. The battery pack in the dual-motor model is a 101kWh unit, offering a CLTC range of 800km. It charges 220km in 5 minutes and 510km in 15 minutes.

Safety is paramount, with an armored cage steel-aluminum hybrid body, torsional stiffness of 51,000 N·m/deg, and seven airbags. The Xiaomi SU7 has undergone and passed over 40 crash tests. The Xiaomi SU7 will be available in standard and Max versions. The standard SU7 features a single motor, 5.28 seconds acceleration from zero to 100 kilometers, a CLTC range of 668 kilometers, a top speed of 210km/h, and a maximum horsepower of 299 horses. The Max version offers dual motors, faster acceleration, a longer range, higher top speed, and additional features like HUD, electric door, laser radar, lifting tail, air suspension, and CDC shock absorber.

As for the price, Lei Jun made it clear at the press conference that neither 99,000 nor 149,000 yuan is feasible. The price will be higher but justified by the exceptional experience it offers, surpassing everyone’s expectations.
