On December 20, iPhone users received the iOS 17.2.1 update from Apple, addressing the issue of excessive power consumption. Notably, the iAppleBytes channel recently released a video test report indicating that only the battery life of the iPhone 11 saw improvement following the update.
During the test, all devices maintained a constant 25% brightness, disabled auto-brightness, and remained connected to the same access point with identical settings. The GeekBench 4 test was then conducted on fully charged batteries, measuring the time it took for the battery to deplete from 100% to 0%.
According to the test results:
- iPhone SE (2020) battery life 3 hours 20 minutes
- iPhone XR has a battery life of 4 hours and 35 minutes
- iPhone 11 has 5 hours and 14 minutes of battery life
- iPhone 12 has 5 hours and 44 minutes of battery life
- iPhone 13 battery life is 6 hours and 58 minutes
Results revealed a positive impact on the battery life of the iPhone 11 after the iOS 17.2.1 update. The benchmark score increased from 2993 points (iOS 17.2) to 3129 points, translating to a battery life improvement of approximately 4.5%. Furthermore, the battery life adjustment post-update yielded a benchmark score of 3226 points, reflecting a notable 6.7% increase.
Contrastingly, other iPhone models experienced a decline in battery life performance. For instance, the iPhone 13’s benchmark score dropped from 4460 points to 4180 points after upgrading to iOS 17.2, resulting in a reduction of approximately 6.3% in battery life. Even after battery health adjustment, the iPhone 13’s benchmark score decreased from 4745 points (iOS 17.2) to 4447 points in this version of iOS, causing a substantial 6.3% decline in battery life for the model.
