Porsche and Aston Martin First to Support Personalized Apple CarPlay

Last year, Apple unveiled a new iteration of CarPlay at WWDC. During that event, the company declared its intention to disclose further details by the year’s end. The latest update reveals Apple’s collaboration with car manufacturers to incorporate support for the CarPlay interface, featuring distinct “theme interfaces” tailored to individual car companies.

Porsche and Aston Martin will lead the pack as the initial brands to integrate Apple’s latest CarPlay version, showcasing innovative “personalized themes.”

The public announcement identifies Porsche and Aston Martin as the pioneering car manufacturers to adopt the new CarPlay edition. Simultaneously, these brands will spearhead the experience of exclusive personalized designs.

In the case of Porsche, models supporting the new CarPlay version will showcase a “three-barrel” dashboard interface, with the background image replicating Porsche’s distinct “Pepita” material texture. On the other hand, Aston Martin models will feature a slightly distinct CarPlay design, with the dashboard outlined in the brand’s exclusive green.

Apple officials have asserted that the new CarPlay version transcends its previous role as a mere iOS system projection. Instead, it will “let iOS fill the entire car screen.” As previewed during WWDC the previous year, the updated CarPlay supports a range of automakers, including Acura, Audi, Ford, Honda, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Porsche, Volvo, and more. It can seamlessly integrate diverse vehicle performance data, encompassing the speedometer, tachometer, odometer, fuel gauge, engine temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, and others. This comprehensive integration effectively “takes over” the original vehicle engine system, leaving car manufacturers reluctant to “give it up.”
