Apple iPad Air 12.9-inch Coming Soon: Display Panel Has Been Shipped

Insider Ross Young revealed that Apple’s supply chain is set to furnish Apple with display panels for the 12.9-inch iPad Air, scheduled for an official release in March next year. According to reports, Apple is gearing up to launch both a 10.9-inch and a record-breaking 12.9-inch iPad Air during the same month.

The 12.9-inch iPad Air continues to employ an LCD screen rather than the mini-LED. Positioned in terms of pricing between the 10.9-inch iPad Air and the 11-inch iPad Pro, this variant promises a unique balance. An interesting facet is the utilization of an oxide backplane in the 12.9-inch iPad Air’s LCD screen, outshining the a-Si backplane present in the current iPad Air. The resulting display effect is notably superior.

Analyzing the backplane process of LCD panels, data underscores three primary types based on the materials used: a-Si amorphous silicon material, LTPS low-temperature polysilicon, and Oxide metal oxide. The new iPad Air employs the technology of the Oxide metal oxide category, which represents the most expensive category and showcases its outstanding display performance. The delivery schedule appears to align with earlier speculative reports about the design, which rumored its debut at the beginning of 2024 and subsequently described as part of a collection of enhanced gadgets scheduled for release in March.
