According to feedback from iOS developer @mysk_co, Apple has already addressed the issue of the “Significant Locations” option reopening in the recently released iOS 17.1 RC version. In the iOS 17.1 update log, Apple stated. It “Fixed the issue that could reset Significant Locations privacy settings during data migration or the initial pairing of an Apple Watch.”
After upgrading your iPhone to iOS 17/17.1, have you encountered the problem of the “Significant Locations” option reopening?
Many users reported that after upgrading to iOS 17, the “Significant Locations” option was reopened, even though they had manually disabled it. However, after upgrading to iOS 17.1 RC, it was once again turned on.
Previous reports have shown that it’s important to check whether you have reactivated the “Significant Locations” option after upgrading to iOS 17, especially if you had previously disabled it. Several users have reported that, following the upgrade to iOS 17 with this option disabled, it reactivated itself.
Apple provides the following information:
- The “Maps” app utilizes essential location-related information from “Location Services” to offer personalized services such as traffic route predictions.
- Significant Locations are end-to-end encrypted, and Apple cannot access them. You can delete Significant Locations at any time, for instance, to reset traffic route predictions and similar personalized services.
- To do so, go to “Settings” > “Privacy & Security” > “Location Services” > “System Services,” and then tap on “Significant Locations.”
