Sigma APS-C Lens 10-18mm F/2.8 DC DN with Autofocus Assist Function

Sigma will announce a new product at 4 pm Hong Kong time on October 5. Earlier rumors suggested that the new product might be the 70-200mm F2.8 DG DN|Art telephoto zoom lens, which would leave many photographers drooling. However, it appears that the one that eventually emerged is the Sigma APS-C lens 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN|Contemporary, which has already had spy photos and core specifications leaked.

Sigma APS-C Lens 10-18mm F/2.8 DC DN Compatibility

Sigma APS-C lens 10-18mm

The Sigma APS-C lens 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN|Contemporary, designed for APS-C cameras, will come in Sony E-mount and L-mount versions. It will offer a focal length equivalent to 15-27mm and will weigh only 260g, making it easy to handle. It will also measure 62mm in length, ensuring it won’t feel bulky when you attach it to Vlog cameras like the Sony ZV-E10 for video shooting. However, spy photos will reveal that the new lens uses an external zoom design. At the 10mm wide-angle setting, the lens will reach its maximum length, and the adapter part will include a dustproof and waterproof edge. Overall, it should perform well in challenging conditions.

The 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN|Contemporary lens has 13 elements in 19 groups. It includes 3 FLD fluorochrome extra-low dispersion lenses, 1 SLD extra-low dispersion lens, and 4 aspherical lenses. Its minimum focusing distance ranges from 11.6 cm in wide-angle to 19.1 cm in telephoto. In the wide-angle setting, it achieves a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4, creating a pronounced perspective effect in close-up photos. This lens features 7 circular aperture blades, supports 67mm diameter filters, and includes a built-in stepper motor for quiet and fast autofocus.

The Sigma APS-C lens 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN|Contemporary has numerous competitors in the same class. Sony offers the E PZ 10-20mm F4 G, which only weighs 178g and uses an electric zoom for shooting. It may have certain advantages, but its F4 aperture and higher price could be significant drawbacks. Another contender from the same sub-factory is the Tamron 11-20mm F2.8 Di III-A RXD, which weighs 335g. The new Sigma lens excels in wide-angle capabilities, minimum focusing distance, and maneuverability. After Sigma officially releases the 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN|Contemporary on October 5, some APS-C format users will likely face a challenging decision.
