Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 Released: Starting at £1749

Samsung’s latest foldable phone, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, has been officially unveiled at a launch event in South Korea.

Regarding thinness, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 has significantly improved, measuring 13.4mm when folded. It features a 4400mAh battery, and while this is decent, other competitors, like the US version of the Pixel Fold and China’s Honor Magic V2, offer even thinner profiles and larger battery capacities.

Notable upgrades include a new “dual track folding hinge” system, aligning it with other foldable phones. When closed, the support plate beneath the display swivels out of the way, allowing the curved display to sit loosely on top in an arc, resulting in a completely closed form without any gap. The new hinge design also minimizes any impact on the display.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8th Gen2 chip powers the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, explicitly customized for Galaxy, similar to the S23. It has 12GB of RAM and 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage. The primary camera is 50 megapixels, accompanied by a 10 Megapixel 3x optical zoom camera and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. The device boasts a 6.2-inch narrow front screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, and when unfolded, it reveals a 7.6-inch inner screen with a 120Hz refresh rate.
