The Southeast Asian Smartphone Market, Which Was Once Dominated by Chinese Brands Such as OPPO And Xiaomi, is Being Occupied by Apple iPhone

On June 20th, Gizcoupon reported that a report by the international technology media Rest of World reveals that Apple has rapidly emerged in the Southeast Asian smartphone market, which is predominantly Android-based, and has gained popularity and favor among young consumers.

According to data released by market research firm Counterpoint for the first quarter of 2023, iPhone shipments in the Southeast Asian smartphone market increased by 18%. Strong demand for iPhones was particularly notable in Indonesia and Vietnam.

Over the past 12 months, young individuals in Southeast Asia who switched from Android to iPhone expressed that Apple’s exceptional photography experience and outstanding operating system were highly attractive to them. They also mentioned that as long as Apple maintains its brand quality, they intend to continue purchasing iPhones.

Previously, Apple faced challenges in expanding its presence in the Southeast Asian market. Chinese companies such as OPPO, vivo, Xiaomi, and realme dominated smartphone sales, especially in Indonesia. High-end Android phones were priced as low as $500.

Chinese brands excelled in localizing their marketing strategies more effectively than Apple. They also fostered goodwill by creating employment opportunities and participating in disaster relief programs within local communities.

In Indonesia, Apple’s customers tend to be urban workers. They look for a clean and functional user experience, security, and convenience. And the Apple iPhone met their needs.
