Today, Moto launched two new smartphones. The Moto X40 is positioned in a premium segment, while the Moto G35 is considered a low-end device.
Moto X40 highlights
Screen
The handset comes with a 6.7-inch 165Hz flexible OLED screen. Unlike the competing products, the Moto X40 uses a Gaussian quad-curved screen with 12 edge positions, including the front and rear camera modules. All of them are rounded and exquisitely curved like pebbles. In effect, it has an outstanding appearance. Other than that, this screen supports multi-scene up to 120Hz frame rate intelligent self-adaptation.
More importantly, the moto X40 screen has passed the double SGS low blue light eye protection certification. The HEV is only 4.92% and supports 100% full-range full-scene DC dimming and anti-screen flicker. The rest of the screen parameters include 4K HDR10+ video system, 10bit color management, and Dolby Vision-certified video playback.
Performance
Under the hood, this handset hosts the second-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. It is accompanied by LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.0 flash storage. In addition, the Moto X40 is pre-installed with the newly upgraded myui 5.0 based on Android 13.
What we’d like to focus on is the performance scheduling engine, the MAXE. It stands for Moto AI eXperience Engine.
Under tens of thousands of hours of continuous model training, MAXE can dynamically schedule AI energy efficiency for seven common user scenarios. They include video, games, reading, navigation, VoIP, cameras, and fast charging. So it can further optimize the power consumption performance.
Cooling
In terms of heat dissipation, the Moto X40 adopts a fully upgraded large-circulation 3D heat dissipation system. It has a VC heat dissipation area as high as 3002.39mm². So the temperature difference between the two ends of the VC heat dissipation is only 2°C.
The heat conduction efficiency has been greatly improved. The 12-layer stacked graphite + copper foil composite heat dissipation area exceeds 24,868 square millimeters. 7 intelligent temperature control sensors cooperate with the MAXE system engine to control the heat dissipation of the smartphone dynamically.
Camera
The Moto X40 sports a 60MP selfie camera on the front. On the opposite side, we have a 50MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle macro lens, and a 12MP portrait telephoto lens. The camera supports high-definition portrait mode, autofocus tracking, and night scene mode.
The rest
It is worth mentioning that the Moto X40 is IP68 dustproof and waterproof and can still work normally for up to 30 minutes, even under water as deep as 1.5 meters.
Our protagonist is available in crystal black and tourmaline blue. It adopts a “12-fold variation of Gaussian curvature” design and comes with an aviation aluminum middle frame. It is 8.59mm thick and weighs 197g.
The machine has a 4600mAh battery, which supports 125W wired fast charging + 15W wireless charging + 15W reverse charging.
Price and availability
This smartphone will start shipping on December 22. In terms of price, the 8GB+128GB variant is priced at 3399 yuan ($487); the 8GB+256GB is priced at 3699 yuan ($530); the 12GB+256GB is priced at 3999 yuan ($573); the 12GB+512GB model is priced at 4299 yuan ($616).
Moto G53 highlights
The Moto G53 has two colors of azure white and basalt black. Under the hood, it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 Plus 5G processor. On the front, we have a 6.5-inch 120Hz refresh rate screen that supports PWM dimming. But has only a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels, and it is an IPS LCD screen. The 5000mAh battery supports only 18W charging.
The rest of the features include a 50-megapixel AI camera paired with a 2MP lens, an 8MP front-facing camera, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and weighing 183 grams.
